devotions: a king's palace

The Nest on the Tree photography by Marc Loret of France

"A bird, on the summit of a mountain,
on the high, waving branches,
has built for itself a nest more beautiful
than the palaces of the kings!"

in my studio: i'm back...maybe

It's been many many weeks since I've posted anything from my studio. Because I haven't worked in my studio in what feels like forever! This blog isn't the only thing that's been neglected lately, as I struggle to get back on track after coping with family illnesses and close family members moving away.

The "maybe I'm back" part is due to changes in my life. I hope to relocate in the very near future, either to another part of Colorado or overseas. The tricky part is that I have to sell my house first. Even trickier-I still need to list it on the market.

It's not listed yet because I had the bright idea that I needed to go through my studio and get it organized on a level that would be acceptable to the public. I had no idea what I was in for, but quickly realized I needed a plan to seriously streamline my work. Just say it would make a great topic for a future simple living blog post.

As for simple, here's a few simple, but hopefully classy, jewelry items using extra bits of sterling silver chain and decorative accents.

Mixed Metal Heart Bracelet

Brass Slider Necklace

Pearls in Chains Multi-Strand Necklace

stand for justice

One Perfect Purpose painting by Charity Heart

Something important is happening around the world. More than ever before, people are rising up as one, of all races, cultures and faiths, to speak out for justice and equality for all. No matter who you are. Below is such a happening, to be held next month in the Denver, Colorado area of the United States.

“From Oppression to Opportunity”
A reflective evening
Hosted by the Baha’is of Douglas County-
Friday, June 3, 2011 7:15 PM
Candlewood Suites
Emcee: Dr. Dwight Allen
Please join us for an evening to raise awareness of the unjust and illegal persecutions of peoples around the world, including the persecution and imprisonment of the Baha’is in Iran.

Brief talks by:

Dr. Dwight Allen
Ms. Soheila Songhurst
Mr. Matthew Weinberg
Musical performances by the Ribbons and Strings ensemble, Debonair String Duo.
The Baha’is of Metro Denver, and their friends, stand shoulder to shoulder with governments around the world, advocates for human rights and religious freedom, and many of the world’s leaders, especially our own U.S lawmakers who, on March 1st of this year introduced resolutions in the  U.S. Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives, demanding the immediate release of imprisoned Baha’is held solely for their religious beliefs.
We invite you to join us as we also shine a light on social and economic programs that we believe will help extinguish injustice around the globe.

devotions: power of good

Watercolor World by JessicaIllustration

Lord, we pray for the power to be gentle; the strength to be forgiving; the patience to be understanding; and the endurance to accept the consequences of holding to what we believe to be right.

May we put our trust in the power of good to overcome evil and the power of love to overcome hatred. We pray for the vision to see and the faith to believe in a world emancipated from violence, a new world where fear shall no longer lead men to commit injustice, nor selfishness make them bring suffering to others.

Help us to devote our whole life and thought and energy to the task of making peace, praying always for the inspiration and the power to fulfill the destiny for which we and all men were created.

~ Prayer for World Peace 1978

Please read about the suffering and injustice of seven Baha'is in Iran: "What Harm is There in This?" from Baha'i Thought.

devotions: motherly love

Motherly Love by The Little Illustrator

A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials heavy and sudden, fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends who rejoice with us in our sunshine desert us; when trouble thickens around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts.  ~Washington Irving

may fifth: day of prayer

Any Flag Can Say a Prayer by The Tyrell Collection

Today is National Day of Prayer in the United States. Read more, including history and controversy, on Wikipedia.

My impression is that National Day of Prayer is by and large sponsored by the Christian Faith.  I like to think that it is observed by all walks of life and all types of faiths. I think there must be as many ways to pray as there are people, and that is one of the fascinating aspects of diversity!
