devotions: coahuila blessing

My family is my home

Guardian Angel by Heather Galler

May the Great Spirit send his choicest gifts to you.

May the Sun father and Moon mother

shed their softest beams on you.

May the four winds of heaven glow gently upon you

and upon those with whom you share your heart and home.

art picks: colorful peace

It's a dreary snowy day here in Colorado so I looked for some colorful peace art to honor my mother, who came through brain surgery very successfully yesterday. (you may notice I've been posting irregularly...or not) As a matter of fact she called me up this morning as chipper as can be and said she can't wait to go home! My mom loves color and loves peace even more. As she likes to say, "Bring your sunglasses when you come to my place!"

devotions: healing

Today I'm honoring my mother with a healing prayer, as she will be undergoing brain surgery this week. Please accept this healing prayer for your loved ones who may be unwell. Hug them and love them. Give them your warmth. And hold onto faith that all will be well, no matter what unfolds.

Healing Mandala by Mandalamagic1

Thy name is my healing, O my God, and remembrance of Thee is my remedy.

Nearness to Thee is my hope,
and love for Thee is my companion.

Thy mercy to me is my healing and my succor in both this world and the world to come.

Thou, verily, art the All-Bountiful,
the All-Knowing, the All-Wise.

~ The Baha'i Writings

my other love: paper arts

I've been going through my other art room, full of paper, paint, markers, rubber stamps and all kinds of collage elements, when I came across a few cards from a few years ago. I was experimenting with different art techniques on background paper I learned from a book titled "Art Effects" by Jean Drysdale Green. She uses five mediums, inks, watercolors, acrylics, oils and pastels to create hundreds of different effects to use in paintings.

in my studio: short but sweet

This week has been a challenge to find time to work in the studio, but I squeezed in a few hours and managed to create a couple of pieces worth posting. It really helps to have a goal of posting new work once a week!  Thank you blog :-)

devotions: trust love

Love Equals Heart by artandwares

This is love: to fly toward a secret sky,

to cause a hundred veils to fall each moment.

First to let go of life.

Finally, to take a step without feet.

etsy treasury: animal love

I adore animals and I love, love, love watercolors. What better combination than a collection of cute watercolor paintings of animal couples for Valentine's Day! Sharing the love...

Happy Valentine's Day!

in my studio: the softer side of simple

I like simple touches. Sometimes the simpler the better. Usually something simple strikes just the right note. Whether it's home decor or fashion accessories. Not that I know much about either. But a woman can't go wrong with simple. That's the beauty of it.

women: thoughts for valentine's day

Veva's Home acrylic painting by Katie M. Berggren

St. Valentine's Day, on February 14th every year here in the USA,  is normally celebrated by expressing love to each other, usually in a romantic way between couples, but also to your children or grandparents and so on. It's one of my favorite "holidays" of the year.

But I also think about the women and girls who aren't treated like sweethearts, and not just for one day, but everyday. And not just in my country, but worldwide. Or maybe in your family or your neighbor's just across the way. Or maybe you.

I want to share a few organizations in honor of women and girls worldwide who struggle everyday. For themselves and for their children. They won't be getting cute little valentine cards or a box of chocolates until fundamental changes are made in how we view the treatment of women and girls everywhere.
